Purpose

Product Owners act as the primary contact between the Scrum teams, product development departments and stakeholders to ensure the products meet specific objectives.

The Product Owner manages the product backlog, which includes all the tasks necessary to complete a specific change request. They oversee the full development process, supporting development and looking for ways to improve the product. After product completion, the Product Owner conducts a final review and submits their approval before releasing the product to clients.

Key accountabilities

  • Represents stakeholder interests on the Agile Scrum team , they ensure the team understands what they are working on and how it impacts the business.
  • Create, update and maintain a team backlog .
  • Responsible for refining, review and order continuously the team's backlog. 
  • Contributes to the product roadmap along with Product Management.
  • Maximize the business value of work done for each increment /iteration by the squad(s) focused on value creation.
  • Actively follow progress to confirm implementation meets the definition of done and quality standards.

Who should hold the position?


A Product Owner has a very strong and detailed knowledge on the business, the product and how to use Agile mindset to achieve its results.

Functional skills are a must and non-functional when necessary to understand the product and its complexity. They can be a product manager at Syensqo, a technical expert or a project manager.

  • Prioritize effectively
  • Define a succession of strategies as a product goes through its product life cycle
  • Document, analyze, trace, prioritize and agree on requirements and then control change and communicate to relevant stakeholders
  • Excellent oral and written communication, including presentation skills
  • Ability to work with large teams and a variety of people, including users, product development team members and management team members
  • In-depth knowledge of Scrum and Agile Software Development Methodology
