The portfolio team has transitioned from the old portfolio tool, Accolade, to Jira to streamline the number of tools in use. Jira for portfolio consists of three main components:
General Portfolio Initiatives Follow-Up: This portfolio layer provides a comprehensive overview of all initiatives, including descriptions, costs, decision notes, accountabilities, dependencies, and more.
Plan View: This component displays the timeline and planned activities for various initiatives, indicating when and what will be accomplished.
Detailed Project View: This view supports both waterfall and agile methodologies, allowing for detailed tracking and management of one or multiple initiatives.
Plan view: Following up on progress & sub actions
A significant advantage of integrating both portfolio and project management into a single solution is the enhanced transparency and effective management of cross-initiative dependencies.
Within the portfolio plan view, you can access a detailed overview of project deliverables, their interconnections, and their timelines.
It is the project manager's responsibility to tag the correct initiatives, with all other information being automatically collected.
General overview and progress:
For projects tracked in Jira, there is an automatic indication of progress and the amount of work completed. Additionally, for these projects, you can view the planned releases and go-lives.
The detailed implementation plan and dependencies, both within the project and across initiatives, are automatically visible.
Detailed overview and dependencies:
Automatic warnings can be triggered if necessary, and you can utilize various portfolio filters to focus on the specific scope of interest.
