Japan-based chemicals producer Nippon Shokubai has started commercial production at its new 80,000 tonne/year acrylic acid (AA) and 90,000 tonne/year super absorbent polymer (SAP) plants at Cilegon, Indonesia, the producer said on Wednesday.
PT Nippon Shokubai Indonesia, the wholly-owned subsidiary that runs the plants, held an inaugural ceremony at the site on Wednesday, the company said.
The start-up of the new plants has raised Nippon Shokubai’s total acrylic acid capacity to 700,000 tonnes/year, and SAP capacity to 560,000 tonnes/year, the company said.
The mechanical completion of the AA and SAP plants, which together cost $300m, was in March 2013, according to Nippon Shokubai.
