Taiwan Styrene Monomer Corp (TSMC) has shut its 160,000 tonne/year styrene monomer (SM) plant at Linyuan in Kaohsiung on 16 September, a company source said on Thursday.

The unit was shut due to a compressor problem and is expected to restart in end October, the source said.

Term allocation to the downstream buyers will be cut accordingly, the source added.

“We are still waiting for the feedback on their inventories. If our buyers’ inventories are low, they will have to buy spot to cover,” he said.

At the meantime, TSMC is sorting its feedstock benzene with its supplier – CPC Corp.

Its larger 180,000 tonne/year SM unit is at the meantime running at high rates.
