SABIC has shut down its butadiene (BD) unit at Wilton in the UK for planned maintenance, a company source said on Thursday.

The unit, which has the capacity to produce 100,000 tonnes/year of BD according to ICIS data, was taken offline earlier this week.

The maintenance had been planned to coincide with the scheduled turnaround of the nearby 865,000 tonne/year cracker.

Restart of the BD unit and the cracker is expected around 22 June.

SABIC  is due to shut its BD unit at Geleen in the Netherlands for planned maintenance in June, thereby overlapping with the UK outage for a period of about two weeks.
