South Korea’s SK Global Chemical will extend the shutdown of its 350,000 tonne/year styrene monomer (SM) unit in Ulsan into October, a company source said on Friday.
The unit was taken off line in late July on poor economics.
“The company has not decided if the unit will [remain] shut for the whole of October,” the source said.
SK Global Chemical operates a separate 420,000 tonne/year SM plant at the same location that is running normally.
Other SM producers in South Korea include LG Chem, Samsung Total Petrochemical and YNCC.
