Maintenance plant for a technical object is known as a plant in which you perform the maintenance tasks for the objects and planning is done. You can perform the following activities in Maintenance Planning Plant:-

Maintenance Planning

As per the structure of the organization, maintenance planning can be performed. You define the tasks under maintenance planning as per the structure and defined technical objects. Following types of maintenance planning is possible:-

Within an organization, centralized planning supports the following structures:-

There is only one plant for all the technical objects which is the maintenance planning plant and maintenance plant. This is applicable to WP1. In PF1, it had a different set up.

In other scenarios, it is possible that an organization has multiple maintenance plants, but there is one plant where maintenance planning is performed.

1.1 Functional Location

The business object functional location is an organizational unit within Logistics, that structures the maintenance objects of a company according to functional, process-related or spatial criteria. A functional location represents the place at which a maintenance task is to be performed.

A functional location represents system area at which an object can be installed. The objects that can be installed at functional locations are called pieces of equipment in the system.

The following applies to functional location master records:

1.2 Equipment

An equipment is known as an individual object in the system that is maintained independently. Equipment can be installed at different functional locations. You can create an individual equipment in an organization based on the object-based structure of a technical system.

The use of an equipment at a functional location are documented over the course of time. You always define Equipment master record for each technical object in the system.

Using an equipment, you can perform the following functions in the system:

1.3 Assemble

1.4 Bill of Material

A maintenance bill of material (BOM) is a complete, formally structured list of the components making up a technical object or an assembly. The list contains the object numbers of the individual components together with their quantity and unit of measure. The components can be stock or non-stock spares or assemblies, which in turn can be described using maintenance BOMs.

Maintenance BOMs are primarily used for the following purposes:

1.5 Task List

Maintenance Task Lists describe a sequence of individual maintenance activities which must be repeatedly performed within a company.

There are three types of task lists that can be distinguished from one another using indicators:

Use

You can use all three task list types for ongoing and planned maintenance.

1.6 Document Management System

The Document Management System (DMS) is created in SAP to identify the key data of the electronic document (description, owner, status….), path to storage location and link it to SAP objects.

The DMS allows:

The documents can either be located (stored), on a shared drive in an External application and on Internet in the SAP database (vault).
