The Noise Assessment is part of the Health and Safety Risk assessment at the workplace. The main points of the Noise assessment are the following:

1. A general Noise Level Survey: it shall be conducted throughout the site to identify and document Noise Levels. This survey is updated whenever there is a change in production, process, equipment, or controls or at a minimum every five years.

2. For Noise Levels ≥ 85 dBA, signs shall be posted to require the mandatory use of Hearing Protection Devices.

3. Personal exposure monitoring representative of the shift duration shall be conducted when employees are likely to be exposed to Exposure Levels ≥ 85 dBA. Monitored employees shall be informed of their monitoring results.

To perform the assessment, it is possible to follow a step by step approach as shown below:

HEARING CONSERVATION:

The following shall be required for employees when personal exposure monitoring results are above the applicable exposure level:

Exposure Levels ≥ 85 dBA, 8-hour TWA

Exposure Levels ≥ 84 dBA, 10-hour TWA

Exposure Levels ≥ 83 dBA, 12-hour TWA

•Mandatory use of suitable Hearing Protection Devices

•Audiometric testing: Baseline and annually thereafter

•Training

•Determination and implementation of engineering and/or administrative controls to reduce exposure levels below 85 dB(A)
