Hello Everyone,

Did you know that the cost of work related health and associated productivity loss is estimated to be about 5% of global gross domestic product (GDP).  Did you also know that healthy workers are three (3) times more productive than their colleagues in poorer health.  This got me thinking about the relationship between “Creating Safety” and well-being at work (WB@W).  As you recall from our discussions and presentations on safety culture, a person’s risk tolerance together with their environment influences their behavior.  And, by working to create the right environment, we can hopefully create more “safe” days than bad “days” for the employee.

When I think about well-being, it seems quite similar.  How a person feels is also a product of their personal characteristics (I have read that some people are naturally more “happy” than others) and their environment.  By creating the right environment, people can hopefully have more “happy” days than “stressful” days.  The environment is the same, whether we are talking about Creating Safety or WB@W.  I encourage you to take a look at the environment that exists where you work.  Creating the right environment will be a win-win for each of us and Solvay.
