Solvay Specialty Polymers is world leader in the production of high-performance materials.Researchers deliver innovative and sustainable solutions for many different markets: Automotive and Aerospace, Industrial and Environment, Consumer and Construction, Electrical and Electronics, Healthcare, Batteries. The Analytical and Materials Characterization (AMC) department of Bollate has a key role collaborating with R&I, Manufacturing, Regulatory and Commercial functions for the characterization and testing of all the GBU materials. Starting from a new molecule in the lab to the industrial plant, then to the final application: really a privileged point of view! Here you will find information about our teams, competencies and capabilities to better address your requests.

Mission

Our Purpose is to build a strong partnership with our customers assuring a competent  and timely support  and anticipating needs by providing innovative analytical approaches.

Who We Are

AMC Labs are fully integrated in the Solvay Analytical Network

Besides international ASTM/ISO references, proprietary methods are  developed and applies for structural characterization and testing of the whole GBU product portfolio (Fluoropolymers, Aromatics, Composites).

Standard and complex analysis are provided with a multi-techniques approach aimed to investigate material compositions, support research development and understand the performance  of materials in their final applications.

 (lightbulb) monthly update

New colleagues:

  • Dennis Terrezza - stage ITS in Spectroscopy lab
  • Mattia Porta - stage ITS in Chemical Resistance

AMC labs:

Physical Lab:

  • Pour Point, Thermal Conductivity, Evaporation Loss, Density and Refractive Index equipment moved from ADL to support the characterization of Fluids.

Mechanical & Chem. Res. Lab:

  • In collaboration with the Laboratory of Future Solvay of Bordeaux a robot was installed. Thanks to the robot, specifically developed to measure weight and size of test specimens, the operators  will save many hours of routine work every month while ensuring high quality standards.
  • Installed a new machine for Flex Life fatigue tests: this will allow to double our capacity for these tests, that recently became important also to evaluate fatigue behavior in membranes for a key customer.

Inorganic and Chromatography labs:

March 2024:

  • Completed the installation of TOC and
    CIC AOF

LC Lab:

April 2024:

  • Completed the installation of  High
resolution LCMS (Orbitrap) in the Chromatography lab

May 2024:

Completed the revamping of the clean room and installed the new ICPMS equipment: the new
capabilities will be used to support the analysis of high purity materials

AMC labs:

Building 109:

  • revamping of the Physical Tests laboratories  (end of October).
  • In Mechanical Test Laboratory, a new creep equipment for aromatic polymers is under installation.

Building 102:

Solution & Colloid Lab:

  • Transfer of Kinematic viscosity, distillation range and TRL/TLV (end of June).                            Requesters can already address the requests to our laboratory.
