Japan’s Idemitsu Kosan Co plans to shut its 210,000 tonne/year styrene monomer (SM) unit at Chiba in late March for maintenance, a company source said on Thursday.
“The shutdown will be from end-March to end-April,” the source said.
In Tokuyama, the company has two SM plants – a 120,000 tonne/year and a 220,000 tonne/year unit – that are due for turnaround from end-August to mid-October, the source said.
Other Japanese SM makers include Denka, Asahi Kasei Chemicals and Nihon Oxirane.
