A plant is an organizational unit in SAP that represents a physical facility such as a factory, warehouse, or distribution center.

- Multiple plants may be involved in the production and sale of a specific product to a specific customer. There can be differences between the delivering plant (aka shipping plant) and production plant.
- Plants with multiple production steps may have multiple production plants as different intermediates may be produced in different plants before the final production step.
- For some exceptional flows, plants may be "virtual" in the sense that they do not represent a specific physical location but rather refer to a subcontractor or specific legal entity (e.g. import / export flows).
