Here below you can find documentation about the calculations and the flat file management.
The Product Carbon Footprint calculation refers to the measurement and assessment of the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with the entire life cycle of a specific product. This calculation takes into account the emissions generated during the extraction of raw materials, manufacturing processes, transportation, use, and disposal of the product.
In terms of the Scopes, the GHG Protocol developed by the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) is commonly used to categorize and measure emissions. The Scopes are as follows:
Scope 1: Direct emissions from sources owned or controlled by the company. This includes emissions from on-site combustion of fossil fuels or process emissions from chemical reactions.
Scope 2: Indirect emissions resulting from the generation of purchased electricity, heat, or steam consumed by the company. This includes emissions from the production of electricity purchased from utilities.
Scope 3: Indirect emissions that occur in the value chain of the company's a250pxctivities, including both upstream and downstream sources. This encompasses emissions from the extraction and production of raw materials, transportation of goods and services, use of products by customers, and end-of-life treatment of products.
Within the tool, a PCF is calculated for a specific key composed of:
- A year
- A GBU
- A Site
- A Finished product
