Unigel Mexico has restarted its acrylonitrile (ACN) plant as market conditions have improved, a company source said on Friday.
The 60,000 tonne/year (ACN) unit started up around 10 December and is now running at full rates, the source said.
The plant was idled in November because of propylene issues, another source had said. Once resolved, production remained suspended because of market conditions.
ACN demand remains soft, although one producer said it is picking up a little as buyers start building up their inventories again.
Currently, ACN spot prices are assessed at 77.11-81.65 cents/lb ($1,700-1,800/tonne, €1,241-1,314/tonne) on a reported deal and spot market prices overseas.
The plant is at the Morelos Petrochemical Complex in Veracruz, Mexico, and is a joint effort between Unigel and Pemex Petroquimica.

Total Petrochemicals is reviewing its butadiene (BD) production programme at its Feyzin and Gonfreville sites in France following the cessation of strike action, a company source said on Thursday.
The BD units were shut down because workers at Feyzin and Gonfreville as well as at three other sites went on strike following disagreements over a pay deal.
The strikes began on 12 December. Workers voted to cease strike action on 26 and 27 December at Feyzin and Gonfreville respectively.
“The strikes are over, [we will] restart progressively,” the source said without giving any further detail over the timing.
Total declared force majeure on BD supplies on 17 December and this remains in place.
BD nameplate capacity at Feyzin is 40,000 tonnes/year while at Gonfreville it is 65,000 tonnes/year.
