Japan’s Asahi Kasei Chemical plans to shut its styrene monomer (SM) units in February next year for maintenance, a company source said on the sidelines of the CBI Styrene conference on Wednesday.
The 320,000 tonne/year No2 unit at Mizushima is scheduled to shut from mid February for two months. The 390,000 tonne/year No3 unit at the same location will be shut for maintenance for the month of March.
The company’s No 1 plant was mothballed in 2007.
Other Japanese SM producers include Idemitsu Kosan, Denka and Nihon Oxirane.
