Identifiers:

Section 1:
The following identifiers can be displayed, if available at the product level:
- Trade name: NAM; PROD
- Product Name: according to the priority listing NAM: RCS > NAM:ANNEXI > NAM:IUPAC > NAM:CAS

- CAS No : NUM;CAS
Section 2 - hazardous ingredients listed on the label (all but JP):
Only the identifier NUM; CAS of ingredients to be listed on the label are displayed.

Section 3:
Product identifiers other than the ones displayed in section 1 are displayed before the hazardous ingredients:
- Synonyms : NAM:SYN
- Chemical name: NAM ; ZCHEM
- Formula : FRM:MOLEC
Ingredients - all sections (but 15 for JP):
The name of the ingredient displayed on the SDS is coming from a priority listing, in the language of the generation, or in the “empty language” if it does not exist in the language of generation (see table hereafter).
The 1st priority is in fact the Z_GENx identifiers, when the corresponding component type is chosen (see next paragraph)

The templates automatically display the e-mail “information.fds@solvay.com” (to modify) unless there is an e-mail address filled in the characteristic e-mail address. In this case, this is the e-mail address filled in WP1 that must be displayed

Section 8

Unlike other zones, the OELs are displayed in 2 different tables (3 for Japan), to distinguish the national OEL from the other ones (US ACGIH and SAEL):

Rules
4 rules to launch:
  • GHS_AU: classification and labeling of the product according to the GHS AU regulations (only PhysChem and Health Hazards), to be displayed in section 2 of SDS
  • GHS_AU Environment: Environmental hazards are not part of the AU GHS. However, these hazards can be displayed in section 2.3 of the SDS_AU.
  • Hazard Comp_AU: hazardous ingredients to be listed in section 3 + ingredients with OEL/BEI to be displayed in section 8.
  • Drugs & Poisons Schedule Australia (DP_AU): determines the poison schedule for products in accordance with Standard for the Uniform Scheduling of Medicines and Poisons (SUSMP), to be displayed in sections 2 & 15.

Other specificities

Section 1: If the product is classified as Schedule 6 or 7 according to SUSMP, the following information is automatically displayed iat the end of section 1.4 (with the title “Poisons Informations”): "For advice, contact a Poison Information Center (e.g. phone Australia 13 1126) or a doctor (at once)"

S ection 3:
  • the SDS template automatically displays a line with the info " Non-hazardous ingredients... Balance" at the end of the hazardous ingredients table, unless the phrase " Balance not displayed (AU/NZ)” is filled in the Remarks characteristic of the AU instance
  • Ototoxic components:
    • the Safe Work Australia has identified some causes of hearing loss in the workplace. One of them is the exposure to a number of common industrial chemicals and some medications, who can cause hearing loss or exacerbate the effects of noise on hearing. These substances are called ototoxic substances and they have to be identified in section 3 of SDS.
    • this is not done by any SAP rule, so if an ototoxic substance is listed on section 3 of the existing AU SDS, you will have to manually add it in a NEW instance, with the Remark “Ototoxic substances”.
    • Safe Work Australia Code of Practice for MANAGING NOISE AND PREVENTING HEARING LOSS AT WORK (broken link) (see otoxic substances listed in APPENDIX A, pages 28-29) and OSHA publication Combined exposure to noise and ototoxic substances (table 2 page 24) (broken link)
Section 5: the HazChem code is displayed in sub-section 5.3 (in addition to section 14) , at the end of the paragraph related to Special protective equipment for firefighters.

  • GHS CN: determines the classification and labeling according to the GHS_CN regulation, to be displayed in section 2 of the SDS

  • Hazard Comp CN: determines the hazardous ingredients to be listed in section 3 + ingredients with OEL & BEI to be displayed in section 8.
  • RegInfo CN: determines if any ingredient is relevant for the following regulations
    • Law on the Prevention and Control of Occupational Diseases
    • Highly toxic chemicals at workplace
    • Hazardous Chemicals for Priority Environmental Management under MEP
    • Hazardous Chemicals for Priority Management

Other specificities

Header
It must contain the "Compilation date" (= date of first version of SDS)

Several possible cases:

  • First version 1.0: compilation date = revision date, outputted automatically
  • Version N generated in WP1:
    • the publication date of the Version 1.0 is automatically added to the template if also generated in WP1
    • in the case of a version 1.0 generated outside WP1 (inbound documents imported from a legacy system), you have to manually fill in the first compilation date in a new dedicated characteristic. It is located in the class Other Information>characteristic First issue date , in the section 16 of the property tree. Do not forget to add a usage!
Section 2:
It shows a new section "Emergency overview", that contains:

- the appearance (form, state of matter, odor and color), taken directly from the data already maintained for the section 9

- the text of the H statements, already outputted by the rule in GHS Classification (A/P), valid for China.
- so no extra work for the SDS writer to complete this new section

Section 15:
  • In any cases, the template automatically displays the following regulations, at the beginning of section 15:
    • Following last version of regulations are applicable for the chemical classification, SDS and label:

  • GHS_UN: determine classification and labeling of the product according to the GHS_UN recommendations, to be displayed in section 2 of SDS.
  • HazardComp UN: determines hazardous ingredients to be listed in section 3 + ingredients with OEL/BEI to be displayed in section 8
  • RegInfo HK: calculates multiple statements for a PROD_COM, based upon GHS classification data, dangerous goods information and components regulated as carcinogenic substances or hazardous chemicals (output in the class Information About Other Regulations). These statements are displayed in section 15 of Hong-Kong SDS

3 rules to launch:
  • GHS_UN: determine classification and labeling of the product according to the GHS_UN recommendations, to be displayed in section 2 of SDS.
    • Based on GHS_UN revision 4
  • HazardComp UN: determines hazardous ingredients to be listed in section 3 + ingredients with OEL/BEI to be displayed in section 8
  • Classification IN: determines the product’s overall hazardous nature. It calculates the Regulatory Basis and the Hazard Category for the class Hazardous Substance Rating (A/P) to be displayed in section 2. Note that only certain hazard classes are considered by this rule: acute toxicity, Explosives, Flammable liquids and Flammable gases.

Other specificities

Section 3: main chemical name: In the header part of the product, you can add the Main Chemical name of the product (NAM; Z_MAINCHEM), that will be displayed in section 3 of the SDS. You have to specify that this identifier is applicable in India only.

5 rules to launch:
  • GHS JP: determines the classification and labeling according to the GHS_JP regulation, to be displayed in section 2 of the SDS
  • Hazard Comp JP: determines the following information:
    • hazardous ingredients in section 3 (= ingredients classified accoring to GHS_JP or other JP regulations + ingredients with OEL)
    • ingredients with OEL & BEI in section 8
    • product classification according to the following regulations, in section 15:
      • Ozone-depleting potential
      • Chemical Substances Control Law (JP)
      • Industrial Safety and Health Law (JP) >> class also filled by rule RegInfo JP
      • Poisonous and Deleteterious Substance Control Law (JP)
      • Pollutant Release and Transfer Reg. (JP)
  • RegInfo JP: classifies the product according to the following regulations, to be displayed in section 15
    • Industrial Safety and Health Law
    • Waste Disposal and Public Cleansing Law - class Environment Waste and Water
    • Vessel Safety Law - class Product Safety
    • Aviation Law - class Product Safety
    • Explosive Control Law - class Product Safety

  • FSL JP: determines the classification according to the Japanese Fire Service Law, to be displayed in section 15
  • HPGSL JP: classifies the product according to the High Pressure Gas Safety Law (class Product safety), to be displayed in section 15

Note: the group of rules also includes the rule SVT Japan. This rule aims at fulfilling a composition dedicated to the Japan SVT reports. Refer to the SVT pages for more information.
It is not needed for the SDS Authoring but recommended to run anyway as it is necessary for any product imported or sold in Japan.

Other specificities

Section 1: "1.3 Details of the supplier of the safety data sheet"

An importer is equivalent to a manufacturer under the local laws in Japan.
It is mandatory to display a local importer name in this section, such as Nippon Solvay, Solvay Japan, Solvay Specialty Polymer Japan etc.
Additionally the company name must be translated in the Japanese language on SDS_JP in JA.
In case a customer in Japan directly buys/imports a product from GBU outside of Japan (indent business), the supplier name in SDS and label must be the customer name.

Section 15:
In addition to the previous regulations, some list can be manually maintained in the class Product Safety, if relevant:
  • Road Act
  • Air Pollution Control Act
  • Offensive Odor Control Act
  • Water Pollution Control Act
  • Act on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and the Regulation of Specific Chemicals
  • Narcotics and Psychotropic Control Act
The SDS_JP template has complex template conditions to display either:
- PROD_COM and/or Pure_Sub information
- Only relevant and/or not relevant information
The template display is linked to the Regulatory basis and can be different within the same class.

Rules

3 rules to launch:
  • GHS_MY: classification and labeling of the product according to the GHS MY regulations, to be displayed in section 2 of SDS.
    • Note that the rule does not "adjust" the official classifications, like it does for Europe and Turkey
  • Hazard Comp_MY: hazardous ingredients to be listed in section 3 + ingredients with OEL/BEI to be displayed in section 8
  • RegInfo MY: it always creates instances in the class Information about Other Regulations (SDS) - section 15:
    • Occupational Safety and Health (Classification, Packaging and Labeling of Hazardous Chemicals) Regulations 1997
    • Occupational Safety and Health (Use and Standards of Exposure of Chemicals Hazardous to Health) Regulations 2000.

Local Part for New Zealand

Rules

3 rules to launch:
  • GHS_NZ: classification and labeling of the product according to the GHS NZ regulations, to be displayed in section 2 of SDS.
    • The HSNO hazard classification system is substantially equivalent to the United Nations Globally Harmonized System for classification of chemicals (GHS), however some differences exist:
      • Different class identification & categories number
      • GHS_NZ specificity:
        • Liquid desensitized explosives & Solid desensitized explosives (not in GHS)
        • STOT SE cat 3
        • Some ecotoxic effects
      • Not in GHS_NZ but in other regulations:
        • Gas under pressure
        • Hazardous to the ozone layer
    • WARNING ! There are official classifications in NZ, published by the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act (HSNO), and available in WP1 at the pure_sub level, in section 2 > International > GHS Classification (List Data). Theses official classification can be adjusted if these classifications are provided for a group/family of substances (but not if the HSNO classification is given for a single chemical) and if Solvay has internal data to support a different classification. In case the rule GHS_NZ outputs a classification different from other zones, you need to check the pure_sub NZ classification and ask for adjustment if needed.
  • Hazard Comp_NZ: hazardous ingredients to be listed in section 3 + ingredients with OEL/BEI to be displayed in section 8
  • HSNO: determines the HSNO Group Standards, which are relevant for the notification of products in New Zealand, and which are relevant for Section 15 of the MSDS according to the ERMA: User Guide to the HSNO Thresholds and Classifications 2008, the Bulletin Issue 77 and the HSNO approved code of Practice for Safety data sheets (HSNO CoP 8-1 09-06).

    • A few categories are excluded or combined. Check the GHS Comparison file for more information.
    • Note that the official classifications coming from the MoE (and provided by SAP) cannot be adjusted!
  • Hazard Comp KR: determines the following information:
    • hazardous ingredients to be listed in section 3
    • non hazardous ingredients > 1% (not displayed on the SDS) in section 3
    • ingredients with OEL & BEI to be displayed in section 8
    • product classification according to the following regulations, in section 15 - class Other regulation (KR)
      • TCCL: Toxic chemicals, Observational chemicals, Banned Toxic Chemicals & Restricted toxic chemicals
      • Toxic Release Inventory Chemicals
      • ISHA Presidential Decree: Harmful Substances Prohibited from Manufacturing, Harmful Substances Requiring Permission, Substances to be controlled,
      • Accident precaution chemicals according to TCCA

Note: the group of rules also includes the rule SVT Korea. This rule aims at fulfilling a composition dedicated to the Korea SVT reports. Refer to the SVT pages for more information.
It is not needed for the SDS Authoring but recommended to run anyway as it is necessary for any product imported or sold in South Korea.

Other specificities


Section 2: the SDS_KR template enable to display the NFPA Rating (US) if maintained with the proper validity area.

Section 3:

CBI can be (self) claimed to conceal:
- Chemical name (generic name can be used)
- CAS No. or identification number
- Amount of each typical composition (can be described by range of ± 5%)
Exceptions (must be disclosed)
- Harmful Substances Prohibited from Manufacturing (OSHA)
- Harmful Substances Required Permission for Manufacture (OSHA)
- Controlled Hazardous Substances (OSHA)
- Hazardous chemicals (K-REACH)

Note that the section 3 is supposed to disclose the composition information. When an ingredient is not disclosed, it is assumed that a CBI claim has been made.

Section 16: Recommandation for users to Diplay in the characteristic "Sources of key Data" a sentence: " Information derived from practical experience"


Local Part for Taiwan

3 rules to launch:
  • GHS_TW: classification and labeling of the product according to the GHS__TW regulations, to be displayed in section 2 of SDS.
  • HazardComp_TW: hazardous ingredients to be listed in section 3 + ingredients with US & TW OEL to be displayed in section 8.
  • RegInfo Taiwan (previously called Classification Taiwan): this rule set calculates the Taiwanese Dangerous and Toxic Materials. These data are displayed in section 15 of Taiwanese SDS

Other specificities

Section 3 : the names of hazardous ingredients have to be displayed in both English (EN) and Traditional Chinese (ZF). If ZF language is not displayed, you have to contact EHS admin/HazCom team.

  • Restriction Status :
    • t his rule set calculates the Hazardous Substance List (Hazardous Substance Act B.E. 2535). These data are displayed in section 15 of Thai SDS
    • If none of the ingredients is listed on this list or if the conditions are not fulfilled, the respective list will be written back with the phrase “Not banned or restricted”.

Other specificities

Section 14 : maritime regulation ADNR or AND is displayed. ADN is renamed in the VN template under the subtitle : Inland waterway transport (ADN)
