Version is a way to easily identified any update of the content of the document to new data or an regulation update or any other changes. SDS update need to be defined by the SDS Writer as a major or a minor version.

Major / Minor version - Criteria and Impact
Major version
Changes to versions requiring provision of updates according to Article 31(9) and re-issue to former recipients.
Some key changes in the safety data sheet should triggered a major version:
- Section 1 : Usage, supplier name, emergency telephone number
- Section 2 : classification
- Section 3: change of the hazardous ingredients present in the product and to be reported on the SDS (new ingredient or classification)
- Section 14: change of product transport classification
- introduction of a new Exposure Scenario (EU only)
==> Generation of a Major version will be identified by an increment by an integer, e.g. : from 2.3 to 3.0
Minor version
All other change without impact on lablling and does not requiring re-issue to former recipients.
Generation of a Minor version will be identified by an increment by a decimal, e.g.: from 2.3 to 2.4
Impact in case of Major version
Major SDS version validated in SAP EHS system is the trigger for Subsequent SDS shipping
