The field "Department" of the profit center is a critical field that is used in BW to assign a cost center to a plant and then to a site.
ex:
- The cost center 7512-1022 is assigned to the profit center 7512-I0449
- The department of the profit center 7512-I0449 is 7512
=> The cost center is assigned to the plant 7512
Depending on the type of profit center the department code can be:
- a plant code = a code maintained in table T001W in WP1 or PF1 (1)
- a generic plant code (only in WP1) created by GBU (2). This code doesn't exist in the table T001W.

There is one exception when there are several management units / GBU in the site (only in GBU Soda Ash). In the GBU Soda Ash, there should be one dedicated department for Soda Ash another one for Bicar. ex: in Torrelavega

Hamburger, Joao, for PF1, I suppose we are going to use the department code to store the plant code like in WP1, as it is an authorization object needed for BW FC2 queries ?

We have to investigate first if currently this field does not have a different type of usage, at least regarding organizational profit centers (I presume reporting profit centers would be out of scope? ). If it is always blank or X, we just have to understand if the X has any meaning, else we could adopt the plant code (3 alphanumerical digits in PF1).

We must be careful as if we want to have the same usage of the department code in both ERP and follow what is in WP1 : code plant (for instance 7897) or code GBU (for instance CS00 for Novecare), we will have to duplicate some profit centers in PF1 when we have in the same plant SG&A CC and production CC or for multi GBU plants.

David TONDA, I remember there is a specific table to maintain in BW for GBU plant code: am-I correct ? Perhaps we could include the link for the maintenance procedure of that GBU plant code table in that page ?
