Japan’s Idemitsu Kosan Co on Tuesday shut its 210,000 tonne/year styrene monomer (SM) unit in Chiba because of unspecified production issues, according to market sources.

 

|It is not immediately known when the company will restart the unit.

The company could not be reached for comment.

 

The company also operates a 120,000 tonne/year and 220,000 tonne/year SM units in Tokuyama.

 

Other Japanese SM producers include Asahi Kasei Chemical, Nippon Steel Chemical and Denka.
