Purpose of this query
The objectif of this query is to display the inventory turnover (Turn) and days of supply (DOS) to identify materials in inventory that have a slow turnover and then take action.
In this query, the turnover is calculated based on 12 months period of stock issues.
The reason this query was created was that for very slow moving items, like maintenance and other industrial supplies, a TURN calculated based on 3 month issues was not enough. It was thus requested to have a TURN based on a longer period.
Important information
- This query calculates the Turnover at plant boundaries.
This query cannot be used to calculate a turnover at GBU or company level since transfers from one plant to another are considered as stock issues.
- As the objective of the report is to identify slow moving stocks, movements related to scrapping are excluded from the issues(otherwise scrapped materials will show with a good turnover).
- Transfers inside the plant (from one storage location to another storage location) are excluded from the issues.

Key Figures
Overall view
First, although you only need to select 1 month, the report will provide the TURN and DOS calculations for that month as well as the 3 months before that.
By clicking on the + close the turn, you can get more detailed key figures for each month. Those are either used for the TURN calculation or just there to help you do verification.
M DOS
Description
Days of supplies calculated for month M. It's the number of days of supplies left considering the end of month M inventory and the stock issues over the previous 12 months (M-11 to M).
Calculation rule detail
It's the number of days in the year divided by the turnover.
M DOS = 365 / M TURN
Example
If you have turnover is 365 , then DOS will be 365/365 = 1 --> You only have stock for 1 more day.
If you have a turnover of 100, then DOS will be 365/100 = 36.5 --> You have 36,5 days of stock left.
if you have a turnover of 1, then DOS will be 365/1 = 365 --> You have 1 year of stock left.
M Turn
Description
Inventory Turnover for the month M. It's calculated based on the value of the stock issues of the M-11 to M months and the inventory value at the end of month M.
Calculation rule detail
Turn of month M = (Stock Issues M-11 to M) / (End of M stock value)
= (Stock issues of month M + Stock issues of month M-1 + ... + Stock issues of month M-11) / (end of M stock value)
Example
You want to calculate the TURN for March :
- During April 2015 to March 2016 you had 4.000$ of stock issues.
- At end of march, the inventory value was 10.000$
- Your turn will be 10000/4000 = 2.5 --> In 1 year, your inventory is "turning" 2,5 times.
Issued Stock M (K Currency)
Description
It's the amount of the stock issues from M-11 to M.
Amount is in thousands (Kilo currency).
Are considered issues the following material movement types :
Calculation rule detail
Issued Stock M (K Currency) = Sum of the material movements during month M to M-11, considering only the Issue movement types (list above).
Note that transfers inside the plant as well as scraping are not considered as issues.
End of M Stock Value (K Currency)
Description
This is the value of the inventory at the end of the selected month (if current month, then it's todays value) in thousands and local currency.
Calculation
No calculation. This comes directly from SAP.
End of M Stock Quantity
Description
This is the quantity of the inventory at the end of the selected month (if current month, then it's todays value) in thousands and local currency.
It's not actually used in the query calculations but only there for you to verify.
Calculation
No calculation. This comes directly from SAP.
Currency Conversion
There is no currency conversion in this query as it's intended to be used usually for a single plant or single legal entity.

| TURN <> 0 | Shows only the lines for which the TURN is not equal to 0 |
| TURN = 0 | Shows only the lines for which the TURN is equal to 0 (Usually materials with 0 inventory) |
FAQ
Question : What does the X value mean in DOS ?
A "X" value in BW means that the calculation couldn't be done due to a division by 0. In the case of the DOS, it means the TURN was equal to 0.
Question : How can I remove all the lines where TURN is empty (Lines where the material has no stock) ?
You can activate one of the BEX Conditions to filter on the data
