Total Petrochemicals is reviewing its butadiene (BD) production programme at its Feyzin and Gonfreville sites in France following the cessation of strike action, a company source said on Thursday.

The BD units were shut down because workers at Feyzin and Gonfreville as well as at three other sites went on strike following disagreements over a pay deal.

The strikes began on 12 December. Workers voted to cease strike action on 26 and 27 December at Feyzin and Gonfreville respectively.

“The strikes are over, [we will] restart progressively,” the source said without giving any further detail over the timing.

Total declared force majeure on BD supplies on 17 December and this remains in place.

BD nameplate capacity at Feyzin is 40,000 tonnes/year while at Gonfreville it is 65,000 tonnes/year.
