FORMOSA Petrochemical Corp (FPCC) is in plans to shut its butadiene plant.

Asia Styrene monomer - on a decline last month - has recouped some losses as a result of recent upbeat manufacturing data out of Europe and China, with expectations of further gains in weeks ahead, sources said on Wednesday.
After falling to the low $1,700s/tonne CFR (cost & freight) China in the middle of August, SM prices recouped some losses to trade in the high $1,700s/tonne CFR China in late August.
Prices gathered further upside momentum this week and pushed above $1,800/tonne CFR China on 3 September, supported by recent positive economic data, sources added.
“Traders are again expecting the market to move higher after the recent bout of good data,” said a broker in South Korea.
Additionally, persistently tight supply in the region has supported the uptrend in prices.
Even in domestic eastern China market prices reached yuan (CNY) 13,000/tonne ($2,124/tonne) ex-tank on 4 September, from around CNY12,700/tonne ex-tank last week as supply remained snug.
“Strong buying in the domestic Chinese market is also positive for the import market,” said a trader based in Singapore.
However, the downstream styrenic resins sector continued to struggle and prices could not keep pace with the increase in SM values.
While resin suppliers continued to target higher prices amid the last leg of the manufacturing season, buying interest has not picked up significantly.
“Despite the recent good data out of China, we are not feeling much improvement on the ground,” said a resins trader in Hong Kong.
Buyers and end-users continued to stay away and only bought small parcels to meet immediate needs.
“Most users do not want to carry much inventories as demand is uncertain,” said a trader in Singapore.
However, one particular downstream sector, expandable PS (EPS), is said to have a better showing this week and has kept SM demand buoyant.
“The EPS sector is showing some signs of a revival, coupled with limited SM imports have sent SM values both in the local market and import market spiralling upwards,” said a South Korean trader.
SM is a liquid chemical used to make plastic resins like polystyrene (PS) and acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) as well as synthetic rubbers like styrene-butadiene-rubber (SBR) and styrene-butadiene-latex (SBL).

BASF discussed research regarding Xzemplar fungicide and Lexicon Intrinsic brand fungicide during the America Phytopathological Society (APS) annual conference in Aug 2013. Xzemplar fungicide and Lexicon Intrinsic brand fungicide both contain the active ingredient fluxapyroxad , while Lexicon Intrinsic brand fungicide also contains pyraclostrobin. EnvironmentalProtection Agency registration for the products is expected in fall 2013. Tested in trials during 2008 to 2013, the research shows that Xzemplar fungicide and Lexicon Intrinsic brand fungicide provide consistent, long-lasting protection against a broad range of turf diseases. The research indicates that the new active ingredient fluxapyroxad is absorbed quickly and evenly transported into turf leaves. The consistent uptake and delivery provide preventative and early curative disease control.
Trial results for Xzemplar fungicide, with the active ingredient fluxapyroxad, showed excellent control against dollar spot at all rates and timings. And when compared against BASF's Emerald fungicide, Xzemplar fungicide provided faster dollar spot control in the first 14 days of the trials. Lexicon Intrinsic brand fungicide trials demonstrated efficacious control of a variety of diseases, including brown patch, dollar spot, summer patch and fairy ring. Lexicon Intrinsic brand fungicide controls economically important diseases from all four major fungi classes: Ascomycetes, Basidiomycetes, Deuteromycetes and Oomycetes. Lexicon Intrinsic brand fungicide contains a 1:2 ratio of fluxapyroxad to pyraclostrobin. Both Lexicon Intrinsic and Xzemplar are expected to be available for sale in spring 2014.

Le 19 septembre, Vincent Bolloré inaugure l'usine fabriquant des batteries électriques à Ergué-Gabéric. Désormais baptisée Blue solutions, elle illustre la volonté de conquérir de nouveaux marchés.
Le bleu porte chance
Jeudi 19 septembre, à 11 h 15, Vincent Bolloré inaugurera l'usine d'Ergué-Gabéric. À ses côtés, Jean-Marc Métais, directeur général de Blue solutions, la filiale du groupe dédiée au stockage de l'électricité, et des personnalités politique de premier rang. Le bleu, une couleur connotée positivement, a porté chance à Bolloré. La première voiture électrique a été baptisée BlueCar.
La formule est désormais déclinée, avec, par exemple, la BlueHouse, une maison autonome sur le plan énergétique. Blue solutions sera d'ailleurs bientôt introduit en Bourse. Et l'usine, autrefois Batscap, a opté pour ce nom.
Stockage d'énergie
Ce changement d'appellation correspond à une volonté du groupe d'élargir son champ d'actions dans le domaine du stockage d'énergie. Ainsi, après avoir été testée avec succès sur les voitures électriques, la batterie conçue à Ergué-Gabéric connaît de nombreux développements. Elle équipe des bus (Gruau) et des bateaux. Couplée avec des panneaux photovoltaïques, elle est aussi le coeur de système permettant l'autonomie énergétique avec la BlueHouse. Des bâtiments, comme des dispensaires, sont destinés aux pays en voie de développement. Mais le stockage d'énergie aux heures creuses intéresse aussi les particuliers sous nos latitudes.
300 emplois
Ces « solutions bleues » seront exposées sur le site d'Ergué-Gabéric le jour de l'inauguration. Mais la BlueCar reste la vedette. Elle sera naturellement de la fête. D'autant que Patrice Bardin, chargé de la commercialisation de la voiture, n'a pas ménagé ses efforts pour attirer les clients. « En 2009, nous avons lancé un appel via internet pour toucher les personnes intéressées par la voiture électrique Bolloré : 9 000 personnes ont répondu positivement. » Sauf que... Il a d'abord fallu fournir en voitures le système Autolib' en région parisienne. Les clients ont donc dû patienter. Entre temps, l'usine s'est agrandie. Et les prévisions de création de 300 emplois ont suivi. Des entreprises, des collectivités et des particuliers ont choisi la BlueCar. « Nous arrivons à 90 en France. » Ne sont pas comptabilisés les véhicules Autolib', que ce soit à Paris ou, bientôt, à Bordeaux et Lyon.
Beaucoup de BlueCar
L'Ouest représente une part importante pour le marché particuliers et entreprises des BlueCar. Patrice Bardin a fait un décompte : une bonne trentaine de véhicules ont trouvé preneurs sur cette zone. Beaucoup de ces BlueCar seront alignées comme à la parade le jour de l'inauguration. Certains achètent : Quimper et Quimper communauté, mairie d'Ergué-Gabéric, Pays fouesnantais et mairie de Fouesnant, Belloc Paysages, etc. « Parmi les achats, celui décidé par le comité d'entreprise de l'usine Bolloré d'Odet. Une façon de montrer l'attachement à la dynamique de l'entreprise. »
Il y a aussi beaucoup de locations longue durée : Crédit agricole, chambre de commerce de Quimper, Armor-lux, préfecture du Finistère, chambre de métiers du Finistère, deux particuliers aussi (à Ergué et à Concarneau), Guyader, Cegelec... Une liste non exhaustive avec de nombreux projets annoncés. « Le lendemain de l'inauguration, je file remettre une voiture à l'hôpital de Lamballe, dans les Côtes-d'Armor. »
