Broadcast are used daily to send BW queries/workbooks to users.

The aim of this document is to give the processus to ensure that Broadcasts are correctly updated and sent.

When to check broadcasts

If possible, check the broadcasts 3 times a day.

  • 6:00 AM
  • 2:00 PM
  • 6:00 PM

(Given schedule is on Paris Time)

Check Broadcasts still running after 1 hour

Most broadcasts are executed within ten minutes.

It may happen that a broadcast fails and runs endlessly. We usually kill them manually after an hour.

1. Go to transaction SM37

2. Execute the transaction with the following settings:
Job Name = *
User Name = ALEBW
Job Status = Active

3. Look for jobs which have a duration > 3600s

Those JobNames should start whith "BIBCAST...."

4. Identify which broadcast is concerned

Double clic on the Active Job to display its properties.

Clic on "Job Log" to display the logs. Find the name of the broadcast and the name of the workbook/query broadcasted.

4. Kill these broadcasts

Select the JobName, Click on "Job" and "Cancel active Job". Validate.

The cancelled job is now visible if you do a search on SM37 with "Job Status" = Cancelled.

Check Broadcasts not updated successfully

1. Go to transaction RSA1

2. Go to Administration / Broadcasting / Log Display

Do not select User Name.

3. Identify broadcasts in error

Find the name of the broadcast.

Check Broadcasts not sent successfully

Once the broadcast is executed by BW, it's sent to the Mail Server.

You should check that these broadcasts are correctly sent.

Please note that broadcast transmission is not immediate: Mails are sent to the Mail Server every 10 minutes.

1. Open transaction SOST

2. Select the expected perimeter

3. Check the message status

  • 73 : the broadcast has been sent successfully (green light)
  • 672 : the broadcast is waiting to ben sent to the mail server. Please check within 10 minutes (orange light)
  • Other status : the broadcast is in error. You may need to restart it. (red light)

Note: some broadcasts may have a "826" error message. This is not an error, broadcast is sent normally.

Restart a broadcast in error

1. Go to transaction RSA1

2. Go to Administration / Broadcasting / Settings

Do not fill "Created By".

3. Select the Broadcast and clic on "Edit"

It will open the BW Web portal.

4. Select the broadcast and execute it manually by clicking on "Execute"

Note: if you need to restart all instances of a broadcast, check if the broadcast is part of a Process Chain (transaction RSA1 / Administration / Process Chains). Restartting the full Process Chain is sometimes easier than restarting manually hundreds of braodcasts.
