A planned maintenance turnaround is under way at Borealis’ butadiene (BD) production unit at Porvoo, Finland, a company spokesperson confirmed on Wednesday.
While the timing and the duration of the maintenance stop has not been disclosed, talk amongst market players has suggested the downtime will last for around a month mid-April to mid-May.
The availability of one additional crude C4 (CC4) argo out of Porvoo this month was a signal that BD production was offline, sources added. CC4 is the feedstock for BD.
The unit has the capacity to produce 25,000 tonnes/ year of BD according to ICIS data.
