Dow Chemical’s joint-venture acrylic monomer plant at Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia, has achieved mechanical completion, the US-based chemicals major said on Thursday. Pre-marketing activities are underway and commercial shipments are expected to begin in the third quarter, Dow said.
Dow said that its Saudi Acrylic Monomer Company (Samco) joint venture plant with Tasnee Sahara Olefins Company is the first acrylic monomer production facility in the Middle East.
The plant will produce glacial acrylic acid (GAA) and butyl acrylate (BA).
Tasnee will market the products in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, while Dow will market them throughout the rest of the world, Dow said.
No details were released about the plant's capacity or financial commitment to the project.
