German chemicals major BASF has begun constructing its new 10,000 tonne/year formulation and packaging plant for crop protection products at Rudong in Jiangsu province, China, the company said on Thursday.

The plant is expected to be fully operational in 2014 and will produce BASF’s range of fungicides, insecticides and herbicides, it said in a statement.

“This new plant will enable BASF to react quickly to changes in the market and directly address the needs of our partners and growers in China and enhance sustainable development in China’s agriculture industry in the long term,” added Zheng Daqing, senior vice president, business and market development, BASF Greater China.
