Japan’s Idemitsu Kosan Co plans to restart its 210,000 tonne/year No 3 styrene monomer (SM) facility on 7 May after maintenance, a company source said on Thursday.

The facility located in Chiba was shut in end-March for a scheduled turnaround.

Idemitsu Kosan also operates two SM units in Tokuyama - a 120,000 tonne/year No 1 unit and a 220,000 tonne/year No 2 unit.

Other SM producers in Japan include Denka, Asahi Kasei Chemicals and Nihon Oxirane Co.
