Business Term Definition

Scheme of classification of raw materials, based on feedstocks used in their manufacturing route. It enables activities such as spend analysis and forecasts, risk management, opportunity heat maps and environmental reports. This is achieved by using a three-level hierarchy consisting of stream, value chain and product.

Product or Product (P)

Raw materials are grouped under products which have the same molecule but under different grades and/or concentrations and/or packaging. Products are defined by their preferred IUPAC name when possible or their commercial name when not possible. "Product" is the first level of the stream taxonomy.

Stream or Stream (P)

Streams are the preponderant feedstock type in the manufacturing route of the products. One value chain is associated with one sole stream. There are five streams - Coal, Crude Oil, Gas, Biochemicals, Mineral and Others -.  "Stream" is the third and last level of the stream taxonomy.

Value Chain or Value Chain (P)Value chains are the preponderant feedstocks in the manufacturing route of the products. One product could be associated with multiple value chains according to the manufacturing route. "Value chain" is the second level of the stream taxonomy.Value Chain or Value Chain (P)
