Business Term Definition
The LIP codes and Product Family code are levels of re groupment designed in SAP to maintain a logical link between material codes which have similarities. All together, they are named "the material hierarchy". They are designed to organize a hierarchization of those re groupment levels. The typical hierarchy is LIP00 < LIP01 < ... < LIP06 < Product family. The definitions of each level are relatively free, and each SAP design has made its choices (PF1 and WP1 are organized differently). Not all the levels are mandatory. Classically, only PIF00 and PIF01 are used. The other levels much less.
